Durham/Edinburgh Extragalactic Workshop - III Exploiting New Instrumentation ZZ-ZZ/12/02, Durham

  • Overview
  • The workshop will start at 11:30 on Thursday 6th December (in time for people to arrive from Edinburgh on the 09:00 train) and will end over lunch on Friday 7th December. Accomodation for participants is being organised at the moment and an email will be sent out when this is finalised. Participants will be housed in the Collingwood College, Farnley Tower (The Avenue) and the Georgian Town House (Crossgate).

The workshop will be held in the AP7 lecture theatre in the Physics building - a map of the city and university can be found on this page.

  • Final Schedule (v.06/12)
  • Each talk slot is 25 minutes - approximately 20 minutes for the talk with 5 minutes for questions. Viewgraphs and Powerpoint will both be supported.

  • Goals
  • The Durham-Edinburgh Extragalactic (DEX) Workshops will provide an opportunity for the discussion of current research at Durham and IfA/ATC and it is hoped they will lead to an increase in the research links between the various institutions. We intend that the workshops will be held every 6-12 months-or-so, alternating the venues between Durham and Edinburgh. We are expecting that they will provide a forum to provoke lively, informal (and undoubtedly forthright) discussion, and for this reason attendence will be limited to about ~25 people (with around 15 speakers), with an emphasis on graduate students and active researchers. There will be no proceedings.

The title of the first workshop (to be held in Durham on 6-7/12/01) is: "The First Galaxies and AGN" - this will be interpreted broadly - but the focus will be on observational (and theoretical) studies of galaxies and AGN at z>1.
