About
Professor Sir Carlos S. Frenk CBE FRS is the Ogden Professor of Fundamental Physics at Durham University and one of the world's leading theoretical cosmologists. He is a founding member of the Virgo Consortium, an international collaboration carrying out large-scale cosmological simulations, and a principal investigator on the FLAMINGO and COLIBRE simulation projects.
His research spans cosmology, large-scale structure, galaxy formation and the supercomputer simulation of cosmic structure. He is one of the originators of the Cold Dark Matter theory — now the standard model for the formation of structure in the Universe.
Sir Carlos was awarded a CBE in 2017 and was knighted in the King's Birthday Honours 2026 for services to astrophysics and cosmology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and an Honorary Fellow of King's College Cambridge.
